Welcome to the new site for Together We Read. Explore the links for information about the chosen book as well as about programs, writing, culture, and our community.

Our Mission

Our mission is to develop in Western North Carolina a love of reading and heritage through the shared experience of well-chosen books.

Who We Are

Together We Read, now in its fifth year, is Western North Carolina's region-wide reading and discussion program. Every year, participants choose a book that becomes the basis of a community phenomenon. Imagine seeing the book in a friend's hands and being able to comment on it. Then, there are the programs. Together We Read supports a wide range of activities at sites in 21 counties through book distribution, reading and writing guides, publicity and media events, and offerings of speakers. Librarians, educators, merchants, readers, and community leaders together guide our organization in its goal to inspire the excitement and thoughtfulness that books can bring us.
